Finance Report
Linda reported the audit has come in and she will bring copies to the next meeting as Chris was not in the office today.

Security Update
George reported he has received quotes for security for the front door.  The handicap door will be the “main” door.  The quotes were $3,300-$4,100, $2,185.00, $2,400.00 and $1,975.00.  Discussion ensued regarding the systems used in other schools.  George said he doesn’t think CTES needs such an elaborate system as CAES has.  To replace the front windows with security glass would be an additional $2,100.00.  There was discussion around storage for video.

Vermont School Boards Insurance Trust has an emergency tool kit that will be available.  This is a tiered system.  The first tier offers a walk through at no cost.  George’s said he thinks the quotes are comparable.  He recommends Country Side Lock and Alarm.  Amanda made a motion to authorize George to hire Country Side Lock and Alarm to install the front door security system not to exceed $2,500.  Motion approved.

CTES will be participating in a School Health Index.

The staff participated in CPR training on St. Valentine’s Day.

Within six weeks George should have information regarding the roof.

George explained to the board who is eligible to attend CTES; George said he published this in the Cavendish Corner.

The alert system is changing to a new system.  Schools are using the system to communicate as well as for emergencies.

The PTO had a Bake Sale and raised $1,630.00 for programs at CTES. It was a huge success.  The PTO is also planning a Bingo Night.  The goal is to raise $5,000.00 for CTES programs.

Help needed for 20 Mile Stream Tree Planting

Tree planting by the Black River Action Team is ready to roll on the banks of Twentymile Stream and the Black River during the week of May 6-9 in Cavendish VT -- we just need someone with a truck or van to drive up to the Intervale Nursery before May 6th to pick up trees and shrubs!  Gas will be paid for; these are all small trees that should fit nicely in a van or truck bed (with a tarp to keep them from drying out or blowing out), and the wonderful Joan Allen will be available to accompany you (pick her up at the Randolph park & ride just off I-89N) as the interface person at the Nursery.  She knows what we're getting and who to see, etc.  :-) If you can help call Kelly ASAP (802) 885-1533

Vermonters to Pay More for Gas and Diesel Soon: On Wednesday, members of the House and Senate reached agreement on a compromise transportation bill. It covers three years, and will raise the effective gas tax by 6 cents this May, and the diesel tax by 2 cents come July. Lawmakers say the tax is just a patch. They're looking to Washington, D.C., for a long-term solution. Federal rates haven't changed for 21 years. Taxes currently cost Vermonters about 45 cents per gallon of gas-- 27 cents of which is due to Vermont. Under the new plan, that tax will go to 51 cents on every gallon of gas. WCAX

Voice to Text Just as Dangerous to Drivers as Texting: Using voice to send text messages while driving is just as dangerous as texting with fingers, with driver response times significantly delayed no matter which method was used, a study released on Tuesday showed. "In each case, drivers took about twice as long to react as they did when they weren't texting," Christine Yager, who headed the study, told Reuters. "Eye contact to the roadway also decreased, no matter which texting method was used." Reuters

4. CHANGES AT GLIMMERSTONE PUB AND RESTAURANT
The owner of Glimmerstone has announced the following changes to the Pub and Restaurant:
I will not be reopening the pub or casual fine dining restaurant at Glimmerstone.  I have had one year of historical data as to the overhead costs to run Glimmerstone and although I have a great following, the revenue is not high enough to cover the overhead.

I will be running events on the patio and the barn and in the dining rooms, those will be advertised shortly.  The first event will be a Sunday Mothers Day Brunch where we will take reservations and have a set price.  These allow me to know how many people I will have to be able to determine appropriate staffing and food purchases and costs associated with those specific events.

I have had such a difficult time making this decision as I have loved serving the public over the last year but I do not want to get into the same situation that my predecessors have had where they have been financially broken here.  I am still going to offer overnight accommodations and events.
