1. Selectboard Meeting 3/9/09
The Selectboard meeting begins at 6:30 pm at the Town Office. The agenda will include:
• Selectboard’s Organizational meeting
• Water filtration update
• Discussion of Annual Town Meeting
8 Follow up on the Southern Loop/Coolidge Connector Project
• Proctorsville Curb and Sidewalk Project
• Consider and sign contract with Cartographic Associates for 2009 Parcel Map Maintenance
2. Upcoming Events
March 14 (Saturday): The Cavendish Town Elementary School PTO is sponsoring a Dinner and Dance Party in the multi-purpose room from 6:30 - 8:30. Learn to Contra dance with Lausanne Allen, eat desserts of all kinds, participate in a cakewalk and win beautiful, delicious cakes and other delicacies, and play 50/50 raffle with a chance to win big money. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students and free for children under 5. The proceeds support the PTO and playground renovations.
March 19 (Thursday): St James United Methodist Church, Main Street, Proctorsville, will host the monthly Community Luncheon for March on at 11:30 am. This month's menu will celebrate St Patrick's Day with a traditional Irish Stew, Irish soda bread, a tossed green salad, and Boston Cream Pie for dessert. The usual coffee, hot tea, or apple cider will be served as well. A small donation of $3.00 for seniors or $4.50 for those under 60 years of age will help defray the cost of this meal.
March 21 (Saturday): Welcome Spring Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, Silent Auction and Bingo to benefit the Cavendish Historical Society and the Cavendish Community and Conservation Association. Dinner begins at 6 pm, with Bingo starting at 7 pm. Tickets for the dinner are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12, free for under 6. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Crows Corner Bakery in Proctorsville.
3. Town Meeting
For the first time, the Cavendish Elementary School budget was voted via Australian Ballot on election day, the Tuesday after Town Meeting. The CTES budget passed 132 to 113, while the Green Mountain Union High School budget failed. The town budget was passed along with the exemption of the Fletcher Farm Foundation taxes for real and personal property for the next five years. The Town also voted to approve an increase from $20,000 to $40,000 the amount of real and personal property tax exemption for qualifying veterans beginning July 1, 2009. There were no contests for the various town positions. The Select Board for 2009 will be Jim Ballantine, Dan Churchill, George Timko, Peter Gregg and Ed Garrow. The Cavendish School Board includes: Jim Ballantine, Gene Bont, Jessica Goodman, Sharon Huntley, and John Maclean.
