2. Cavendish Community Fund says, “Start with Dessert!”
The Cavendish Community Fund is holding its annual fundraiser on August 21st from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Proctorsville and everyone is invited. Several local chefs and experts in mom’s good cooking will have prepared delectable desserts and for a $20 donation attendees can eat all they want. The Dessert Extravaganza will be held at the home of Lucien and Connie Choiniere, corner of Depot St. and Pratt Hill.

The Community Fund has distributed grants to Cavendish organizations and individuals for the past several years for programs, projects and events of an educational or artistic nature. Most recently the Historical Society and the Cavendish Library received grants to continue or initiate innovative and instructive programs. The Fund holds annual events to raise the money necessary to continue its mission. This year the Dessert Extravaganza is the central fundraiser and will be accompanied by a silent auction.

There will be two components to the silent auction. Part one will consist of a variety of donated items that will be auctioned at the event on August 21st. Part two consists of two very special items including a vacation at Villa Trina, Treia, Italy, and the winner’s choice of a vacation in Wilmington, Vermont; North Conway, New Hampshire; Stowe, Vermont; or Newport, Rhode Island. The special items auction will begin on the 21st and bids will be accepted for the following two weeks at Crow’s Bakery and Café.

Please mark your calendar for the 21st at 6:00 p.m. and show your support for a local tradition and all of the Cavendish projects and programs that it provides. For further information, please call Peter LaBelle at 226-7250.

3. “Tourist Accommodated”
Please note that admission to the Cavendish Players production of “Tourist Accommodated” on August 14 and 15 is free but donations are appreciated. There will be no advanced seating, so come early for the best seats. Curtain is at 7:30 pm. The play is a “depression era” comedy about Vermont farmers that take in tourists to raise money to send their daughter to teaching school.

4. Cavendish Concerts End Season with Voodoo Alien Blues Band
The Cavendish Community and Conservation Association invites everyone to come to the Proctorsville Green for the continuing summer music series on Wednesday, August 11th at 6:00 p.m. to listen to Voodoo Alien Blues Band.
The Rutland based all star rhythm and blues band is led by local blues legend Steve Audsley and appears regularly at a variety of Vermont venues.

This concert will conclude the Wednesday night summer music series, so this is your last chance in 2010 to come and enjoy a warm summer evening with your neighbors and friends in front of the gazebo on the green. Relax in the grass on your blanket or favorite lawn chair – have a picnic or just listen to the music.

As always, the concerts are free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine. In case of inclement weather the performance will move to the Cavendish town elementary school on Main Street just up from the Green.
