Specht was missing mostly tools and other similar items. Anyone with any information or who observed anyone at the gates from 09/22/12 to 09/29/12 is asked to call Trooper Vitali at 802-875-2112.

2. Cavendish Related News
Ten Arrested in Drug Raid in Chester Tuesday, police arrested 10 people for allegedly selling drugs out of Eric Hale and Kaleena Smith's Chester apartment. Investigators say $20,000 in cash was stashed in the toilet, VCR and their child's bedroom. Police say they also seized $30,000 in drugs. They believe Vermonter Ryan Bartley as well as seven New Jersey men were helping the couple sell crack cocaine, heroin and OxyContin to hundreds of customers in the greater Springfield area. "It's our understanding in talking with the Jersey City task force that a lot of these gentlemen have blood connections to the Blood street gang down there, Police say Vermont addicts are trading the alleged gang members guns for drugs. They admit this roundup is only a short term solution. Rutland Herald

Free adult pertussis vaccination clinics: Pertussis or whooping cough spiked the past few months in Vermont and around the country. So far, nearly 280 cases have been reported this year; about three times as many as last year. To help combat the growing number of cases, the VT Health Department is offering free vaccination clinics Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Dec. 6, Jan. 3, and Jan. 24. All clinics are from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Vermont Department of Health in Rutland: 300 Asa Bloomer Building. Call for appointments: 802-786-5811. WCAX

Dental Care Won’t Be Covered in VT Health Plan: The Green Mountain Care Board has voted not to include adult dental services as part of the basic benefit package that will be offered to Vermonters though the Health Care Exchange in 2014. Under the federal Affordable Care Act, states must include dental services for children in their basic benefit package but the law also stipulates that if a state includes adult dental care in the package, the state must pay the full cost of providing this service. 3. Cavendish Historical Society: Hands on History-Settlers Workshop
While activities like quilting, candle making and stenciling are thought of today as fun craft projects, they were important to the early settlers of Cavendish. Quilts, often made from old clothing, were important to keep the family warm during Vermont’s long winters. Without candles, the day would be too short to get much done. Stenciling, a bit of a luxury in some ways, was affordable in comparison to the wall paper that was so popular in England.

On Oct. 20, the Cavendish Historical Society (CHS) will be offering a free “Hands on History” workshop, where the community can learn how to make their own stencils, quilt, “dip” a candle using beeswax and press their own cider. The workshop will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 at the Cavendish Elementary School in Proctorsville.

This workshop has been made possible in part from a grant from the Cavendish Community Fund, a project of the Cavendish Community and Conservation Association (CCCA). FMI: margoc@tds.net or 802-226-7807

Please note that Sunday, Oct. 7 is the last day the CHS Museum will be open this season. This is the last day to see the exhibits on Cavendish floods and the 250 Year Cavendish Timeline. The Museum is open from 2-4 pm.
