September Select Board Meeting Now on-line: Monday's Select Board meeting 9/9/13 has
been posted to the LPC-TV website.
Special Select Board
Meeting/Chubb Hill: The Select Board held a special meeting on Sept. 18
to discuss the costs associated with the new Chubb Hill road and the
responsibility of property owner, Donnie Davis. A number of his former
neighbors were in attendance to advocate for Davis, who moved to Missouri this
past summer. To date, Davis has paid close to $28,000 for relocating a new
Chubb Hill road through his pasture. The board voted to pick up the $20,000
plus costs required for completion of the road and to reimburse Davis $300 for
his time and expenses in having to drive to Montpelier for the permit.

clean up of the Black River organized by the Black River Action Team (BRAT).
They covered the stretch from the bridge near the winery down to the first of
the stone houses heading east on Rt 131. Cavendish Recreation is part of the
BRAT and sponsors the Greven Field section of the river.
Permanent Medreturn Drug
Collection Unit at Ludlow PD: Thanks to an Okemo Community
Challenge Green and Black River Area Community Coalition, there is now a
MedReturn box at the Ludlow Police Department. The collection site is open 7
days a week from 9-4. Excess and expired prescription medications, as well as
over the counter drugs, can be deposited here. However, the following items are
not accepted at this time: liquids, hypodermic needles, inhalers or aerosols.
Okemo Ski Community Obtains Act250 Approval: The District 2 Environmental Commission issued an Act
250 permit Friday to Timber Creek and five other partners to build a 208-unit
village at Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow. The permit will allow the
developers to build 22 single-family homes, 32 duplex buildings, nine townhouse
condominiums, a base lodge for homeowners, two ski lifts, seven ski trails,
access roads, parking lots and a community water system. The proposed
development will be situated on 268 acres, which includes the Carnes Parcel and
the Miller Tract in Ludlow, and the proposed residential recreational community
will be a private access development. The owners and guests will have access to
Okemo ski trials and amenities and there will be no public access, according to

ACLU Says Surveillance in VT Should be Better Regulated: The American Civil
Liberties Union of VT has released a new report, http://www.acluvt.org/blog/2013/09/17/surveillance-on-the-northern-border-report-released/
that documents a dramatic increase in the surveillance that Vermonters are
subject to since Sept. 11, 2001. The ACLU says
there’s too little oversight of how the information is used and it’s calling on
the legislature to take steps to regulate some activities. VPR
Changes in Flu Vaccine: This year there are several options for the flu
shot-one covers three strains of the flu and the other four. The most common
flu will be covered by the three strain shot. The four-strain vaccine will be
administered via nasal spray and will be targeted toward children. WCAX
Vermont Veteran Driver ID: Starting Sept. 18, Vermont is offering driver’s
licenses and non-driver ID cards designating veteran status. Press Release

3. JENNI JOHNSON SINGS THE BLUES IN OCTOBER
The smooth voice of Burlington blues and jazz artist
Jenni Johnson will fill the rafters of Proctorsville's Gethsemane Episcopal
Church on Sunday, October 6 as part of the Raise the Roof concert series.
The well-tuned trio of the Jazz Junketeers will provide soulful backup
on guitar, bass and percussion for Johnson's swinging sound. Born in
NYC's Harlem Hospital and raised in the Big Apple, Johnson now resides in
Burlington, Vermont. While she is a regular presence around the Green
Mountain State, her dusky rendition of "Moonlight in Vermont" has
been heard in Paris, Montreal and Rostov, Russia. Comfortable singing
jazz, blues, swing and funk, Johnson claims that each performance teaches her
how to refine the use of her instrument---her vocal chords.
Jenni Johnson & the Jazz Junketeers will perform
at 4:30 p.m. in Gethsemane Church on Depot Street in Proctorsville (next to
Crows Bakery Cafe). Suggested donation of $10.00 at the door will support
Raise the Roof in bringing more live music to the little church with great

One of the questions that often occurs when the
Cavendish Historical Society has a program about Phineas Gage is where to go
for treatment and rehabilitation of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Various
resources are available at the CHS Blog.

HOMEOWNERS ELIGIBLE TO WIN A FREE ENERGY AUDIT
The Cavendish Energy Committee is sponsoring a raffle to
give away a free home energy audit – a $500 value – to a Cavendish
homeowner.
Last March the Energy Committee urged Cavendish voters to
create a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) district for Cavendish. The voters approved the district and now
Cavendish homeowners are eligible to borrow funds through the town to make
energy efficiency improvements to their homes.
The important point is that the loans can be repaid out of the energy
savings realized by the improvements.
PACE loans will be processed through Efficiency Vermont, the
state’s Energy Efficiency Utility.
Information on the application process and on what home improvements
qualify for the program is available at the town offices, at Singleton’s Market
and at Crow’s Bakery in Proctorsville. A
Cavendish homeowner who picks up a packet of information can submit his or her
name to be entered into a drawing for a free home energy audit – a $500
