2013 Photo Contest: The Okemo Valley Chamber of Commerce is conducting a photo contest of photographs taken in Andover, Cavendish, Chester, Ludlow, Mount Holly, Plymouth or Weston. Entries are due by midnight on Sept. 15. The Grand Prize will be on the cover of the Chambers 2013 Calendar, with the 11 runner up entries making up the remaining months.

Find a VT Swimming Hole with an App: Longtime outdoor enthusiasts Dave Lapointe and Torrey Tomasi, both 42, have created an app for mobile devices that allows users to locate Vermont’s precious swimming locations. The application, VtSwimmingHoles, allows users to track swimming holes using GPS and functions as a community forum about a growing list of more than 30 Vermont swimming locations. Hazard Mitigations are for VT Second Home Owners: The Hazard Mitigation Program is designed to mitigate or reduce hazards from floods in the future. The way it works is FEMA awards funding to towns to purchase damaged properties. There's additional money for the town to demolish the structures and create a green space that will never be built on again. So in the next big storm there'd be nothing to destroy. This program is available to all property owners, whether it’s a primary residence, rental or second home. VPR

Six Cavendish Properties Listed for Tax Sale: Six Cavendish properties were listed in the legal notice section of the July 18, 2012 Vermont Journal for “Notice of Tax Sale.” “Reference may be had to said deed for a more particular description of said lands and premises, as the same appears in the Land Records of the Town Of Cavendish. And so much of the lands will be sold at public auction at the Office of the Town Tax Collector, located at the Cavendish Town Office Building, 37 High St., Cavendish Vermont, on August 16, 2012 at 10 o’clock in the a.m., as shall be requisite to discharge said taxes together with costs and other fees allowed by law, unless the same be previously paid. Dated at Cavendish, Vermont this 5th day of July 2012” and signed by Richard F. Svec, Delinquent Tax Collector, Town of Cavendish.

2. Cavendish Concerts on the Green Continue with Gypsy Reel

The Cavendish Community and Conservation Association invites everyone to spend an evening having fun on the Proctorsville Green listening to the continuing summer music series on Wednesday, July 25th at 6:00 p.m. when CCCA presents Gypsy Reel. This concert is sponsored by Black River Produce.

For over twenty years they have been acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Gypsy Reel, in their own words, is not a rock band that Celts, but a Celt band that rocks. They play high energy, stirring music rooted in the Celtic tradition but garnered from the whole world.

This will be the third of five concerts that are held on consecutive Wednesday nights in July and August. On August 1st Sensible Shoes will perform, sponsored by Vermont Farmstead Cheese Company. And for the final concert of the summer on August 8th Voodoo Alien Blues Band will play, sponsored by CCCA.

CCCA encourages all area residents and visitors to join their friends and neighbors in front of the gazebo on the green. Bring a blanket or a comfortable chair, have a picnic, or just lay back and relax on the grass. It’s a fun way to enjoy the summer weather and either reconnect with old friends or make new ones.

As always, the concerts are free and open to all.
